Friends

What do you think Penelope and Roger think about Junior?

Why are Junior and Gordy friends?

  3. I think that they feel sorry for him, but also try to befriend him because he is nice, and he is also new to Reardan.

  4. I think Roger mainly likes Junior because he knows how touch Junior can be. After the time Junior punched Roger in the face Roger seemed to have a lot more respect for him.
I think Penelope mainly likes Junior because she knows how bad his life is and she feels sorry for him.

  5. Roger and Penelope liked him for him, and didn't really think any differently of him once they found out he was poor. The only way that they kind of thought differently of him, was that they felt bad for him.

  6. I think that at first Penelope and Roger don't like Junior because he was an 'Indian,' but they later liked him because they realized what kind of conditions he was living under at home.

  7. I think they actually didnt like them at first. Then he became friends with them. Then when they found out he was poor they felt bad for him so they liked him.

  8. I think they like him and genuinely want to help him in any way they can. However; based on there nice but not overly altruistic personalities, I don't think they will go to drastic measures to help him, but I do think they will help him.

  9. At first, they knew he was different, because he was from the Rez. He is probably the first person to transfer to Reardan from the Rez. As they get to know Junior, they find that he isn't such a bad kid. That's when the friendship started growing.

  10. I agree with Josh, they were both outsiders, so they naturally became friends.

  11. I think that junior and Gordy are still friends because even though they might seem very different but actually they are very similar. for example they are both outcasts and feel like they don't belong.

  12. Roger and Penelope are using Junior. They are he kind of low lifes that have to give charity to others that they deem pathetic and must "help" others in order to feel good about themselves. They think they are kind and wonderful but they are merely leading poor Junior along. They are disgusting specimens of human beings.

Gordy and junior are the same person- give or take, considerbly ok never mind they are not the same person- but at least they can relate to each other, in a strange, weird way

  13. Penelope and Roger probably generally like Junior, however, I don't think they are really friends. Roger sort of respects Junior and Penelope thinks it's cool that she's dating the only Native American at the school, which is quite shallow. Although, I would have to say Penelope (or Penultimate, as Roger calls her) has far more pressing problems to deal with.

Gordy and Junior are friends because they are both sort of outcasts. Gordy is so smart that no one probably likes to hang out with him, and Junior is "the indian kid", although Junior has more friends than Gordy. They are friends because Gordy can teach Junior, and Junior can down-to-Earth-ify (I guess that's not a word, but I digress...) Gordy.

  14. Letitia - What evidence can you site from the book that shows you that Penelope and Roger are "low lifes" and that they deem Junior "pathetic"? Finally, in what way are they "disgusting specimens of human beings"?

  15. 1)When Penelope and Junior first meet (page 59), she laughs at his name. She is then mad at him because she thinks he lied about his name. She does not give him a chance to explain, that's pretty low. 2)Rodger starts out taunting Junior. He calls him a abhorrent slur, that I hate to even think about(page 64). Only a disgusting specimen of a human being could say such a horrible thing.3) After being punched by Junior he has this miraculous change of heart. Please. Being punched does not suddenly make you see how mean you are and suddenly want to be friends with the guy. I think Rodger either consciously or subconsciously realized "Hey maybe I'll be Mr. Good Samaritan if I give this guy my false friendship". 4)It takes learning that Junior is poor for Penelope to kiss him (page 129), that is shallow. They think he is pathetic so they drive him home and CRY for him. Shallow people are lowlifes and lowlifes are disgusting.
