I think it has. If you look at before and after beginning school there he is more social and even plays on the varsity basketball team. Also at the end of the book he is a hero for stuffing Rowdy.
Also I think that rowdy would have changed junior for the worse. I think he would have kept hiding behind rowdy and wouldn't have been such a sucess.
I believe that Rearden has made Junior a much better person. He has explored outside of the Rez and has made friends that he never knew even existed. I think that if Rowdy went to Rearden, Junior would be less successful and more distracted. He would be more focused on athletics than on academics. I don't think that Rowdy would be accepted at Rearden. I dont think that anyone would have liked him. And i also think that Junior would have gotten into more trouble because he always had Rowdy to be there and beat the person up.
If Rowdy went to Reardan then Junior probably wouldn't have come out of his shell. he would have just stuck to rowdy. if Junior hadn't come out of his shell he wouldn't have become friends with people who have changed his personality for the better.
Reardan changed Junior. Junior got smarter, more confident, and learned to chase his dreams, because even if he fails, he still tried.
Rearden influenced Junior by helping him make friends and if Rowdy went to Rearden then Junior would not have made any friends because if your friends with the violent temperamental person then nobody will be your friend.
I think that Reardan has, because during his time there he was able to do better with himself. I think that if Rowdy was there he would just try to keep Rowdy to himself.
At Reardan Junior experienced a different type of people. He had to experience racism and prejudices. This made him stronger and more tolerable to teasing.
If Rowdy had went to Reardan I think Junior would not have done as well. Rowdy would have stood up for him and this would not have made him as strong.
I think Reardan was good for Junior, but I think he was already a good person. If Rowdy had gone to Reardan too it probably would have kept Junior from reaching his full potential.
I think if Rowdy had gone to Reardan Junior would have not been as successful. If Rowdy had gone I think Junior and him would always be getting in fights trying to be better than each other. Instead of becoming closer by going to school together I think they would have actually started hating each other more.
I think that Junior would not have been so successful if Rowdy had accompanied him at Reardan. Junior knew the rules of fighting, but usually lost. When he realized that kids at Reardan didn't want to fight, I think that he was glad that he wouldn't have to lose any fights. If Rowdy had gone to Reardan, I think that he would keep picking fights with kids, even after he realized they didn't want to. This would give Junior a bad reputation, because everyone would know that Rowdy went to Reardan because Junior decided to first, and asked him to come along.
I agree with Eric, the kids at Reardan did not want to fight, and with Rowdy, he would have gotten in a lot of trouble, probably for fighting. He and Rowdy might have even been expelled.
Rowdy would probably have affected Junior in going to Reardan. Junior would not have become stronger by himself if Rowdy went with him. Rowdy would have caused distractions, and he would not have had to be strong for himself.
Well Rowdy is pretty tough so yeah if he had also gotten into a fight then the other guys would respect him too. But he doesn't have the same charismatic personality as Junior so who knows.
I think that Reardan made junior a better person because it challenged him and made him not give up hope and that he could do most anything he set his mind to. I do think that rowdy would have affected him because he would have beaten up people making Indians look bad.
Junior going to Reardan was a very good thing. It gave him a chance to really pursue his dreams. I don't think Rowdy would have effected him too much, he would have been someone to protect him and be his friend, but I don't think he would have done very well there.
If Rowdy had gone to Rearden then I dont think Junior would have come out of his shell. If Rowdy had gone then Junior would have been influenced by what Rowdy did. Since Junior went to Rearden alone he was able to be his own person and make his own decisions.
Junior going to Reardan was probably the best thing that ever happened to him. The foreignness of the new school to him helped him to learn how to adapt to many changes. It would probably have been a bad thing if Rowdy came with him to Reardan. Junior would have been more comfortable and would have learned less.
if Rowdy went to Reardan, everything would e ruined. People would truly be scared. He would not be forced to make new friends and tst new waters. He would not be the nice Junior we see at the end of the book, he would be the emotional, mean, jerk of a boy we met in the begining.
Reardan makes Junior a successful person. Though, it might not be successful to the rest of his tribe, he is still successful to the rest of the world. 1. He conquered his fears of being a minority. 2. His social life and friend-age has grown immensely.
Rowdy would have made Junior's experience at Reardan a failure. Junior would still be hiding behind Rowdy if Rowdy had attended. Also, he may have been more alientated because kids would be like "Oh look at the two gross Indian boys. Who wants to talk to them? THey're probably scheming to rob us." Alone, Junior wasn't a threat; with Rowdy, especially with Rowdy being Rowdy, Junior might have been considered a threat to the students.
Over the course of the book his personality changes. When his dog dies he fails to see the bigger picture. He fail to understand his family's desperate situation. This is selfish. He ran away. This is mean to his parents. This most likely made then feel depressed that could not provide better for him. Only jerks make their parents feel like that. You owe you parents you life, and then you treat them like that? That takes an EXTREMELY mean jerk. On page 19 Junior makes fun of someone looking like a chicken in his cartoon. That is a rude, jerky thing to draw.On page 29 he again uses a cartoon to taunt some one's looks. Jerks judge books by their covers. On page 31 Junior throws a book at a poor old man's face, breaking his nose. What kind of decent person does that? Even if his intention was only to throw it at the wall, one you should never throw something, old or not and two the results are what matter, not the intentions.

yes brantley i think JR. was a big success at reardan
ReplyDeleteexcept if rowdy went with him i think that Junior could gave helped rowdy instead of Junior hiding behind rowdy.
Reardan made Junior succeed and it gave him friends. That's all there is to it.
ReplyDeleteIt would have done the same thing for Rowdy but he was to stubborn to go.
Rearden influenced Junior by helping him make friends
ReplyDeleteand if Rowdy went to Rearden then Junior would not have made any friends because if your friends with the violent temperamental person then nobody will be your friend.
Also playing on the reardan basketball team made him learn he didnt need rowdy that he had other friends. So that definatley helped him.

ReplyDeletealso I agree with what people are saying, Junior might have hid behind Rowdy, and not have blossomed.

Letitia - Junior was a "mean jerk" at the beginning of the book? Proof, please?
